Enactus Project Inspiration
Marine Moulders, Enactus Sheffield
Marine Moulders are empowering local fishing communities to recycle their plastics into useful products themselves, both improving their livelihood and their surrounding environment.
Their three main goals:
- Significantly reduce the amount of ocean plastic
- Create a small-scale waste management system that can repurpose plastic waste into useful products
- Empower the local people in the Sri Lankan communities we work with

80% of waste in the Ocean is plastic, and is currently damaging the environment when it could be repurposed for good.

Marine Moulders are developing and making an injection moulder that re-moulds plastic waste into useful products. The long-term aim of the project is that this small-scale waste management system will be taken to Sri Lanka and given to members of the coastal communities so they can remould ocean plastic.
This will empower the local fishing communities to recycle their plastics into useful products themselves, both improving their livelihood and their surrounding environment.
They are currently using the injection moulder to make and sell plant pots to local shops and university students in Sheffield until they gain the funds to trial the project abroad.
